Journalist Dean Jones expects Tottenham to vie for Jakob Ramsey in the summer, opining that the Aston Villa midfielder will be a better fit for the club than Conor Gallagher.
While Ramsey had always been earmarked as a special talent since he broke into Villa’s senior side as a teenager, the youngster has not been able to kick on and reach the next level.
The 22-year-old has not been a regular in Unai Emery’s starting eleven this season and it was suggested in the final days of the transfer window by David Ornstein (The Athletic) that he could be on his way out of Villa Park.
Ornstein revealed at the time that Spurs had expressed their ‘admiration’ for the England Under-21 international, adding that the Lilywhites were joined by both Bayern Munich and Newcastle United in the race for the midfielder.
Should Spurs move for Gallagher or Ramsey?
Jones would not be surprised if Tottenham reignite their interest in the Villa star next summer but he believes that it will take an offer of around £50m to take him away from the West Midlands club.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think Tottenham should have a level of interest in Ramsey. I think when you consider what he’s brought so far to the Premier League with Aston Villa compared to what Gallagher would have brought, I think there would be a definite argument you could put up that Ramsey could be as good a fit, if not a better fit for Tottenham.
“The problem you’ve got is that the starting price will be pretty similar to where you’re at with Gallagher anyway if you’re looking at the £50m mark. That was off-putting to Tottenham across the winter transfer window.”

I can see why Postecoglou would want Ramsey as the young Englishman has the engine and technical quality to do well in Tottenham’s system and the Australian might believe that he can get the best out of the youngster.
