Journalist believes Celtic face a ‘big job’ to sign Carter-Vickers from Spurs

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed Celtic have a ‘big job’ on their hands to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis from Tottenham this summer.

Carter-Vickers joined the Hoops on a season-long loan at the start of the campaign and has excelled in the heart of Ange Postecoglou’s defence.

The deal also included an option to make the move permanent for around £10 million (Daily Record), with Celtic desiring to complete a signing this summer (Sky Sports).

However, there has also been interest in Carter-Vickers back in England with TEAMtalk reporting host of Premier League and Championship clubs keeping tabs on his progress in Scotland.

And the growing list of competitors in the hunt for the centre-back has led O’Rourke to believe that Celtic may struggle to complete a permanent deal.

He told GiveMeSport: “It’s a big job for Celtic to try and get this deal over the line.

“He’s been a huge success since his arrival from Tottenham on loan, and I’m sure Michael Nicholson at Celtic will be hoping to convince Carter-Vickers to sign on a permanent basis with the lure of Champions League football if Celtic do go on and win the SPL title this year.

“The chance to play at the highest level and enhance his own CV and everything else.”

Carter-Vickers has made more than 40 appearances this season in what has been the seventh loan spell of his career (Transfermarkt) and helped Celtic win the League Cup over Hibernian in December.

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that there are so many teams interested in Carter-Vickers can spell good news for Spurs, who are likely going to offload him this summer.

He is at an age where he should have settled at a club permanently and right now that club should be Celtic, but they need to activate that clause to avoid losing him.
