Journalist believes Harry Kane will be in favour of Spurs move for England teammate

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Harry Kane would give his approval for Tottenham to push ahead with a move for Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse.

Ward-Prowse, like Kane, has been a one-club man for the entirety of his career so far but the midfielder’s time at St Mary’s looks in danger of coming to an end this summer, with the club facing an uphill battle to preserve their Premier League status.

It was reported by talkSPORT two weeks ago that Tottenham and West Ham United are both monitoring Ward-Prowse amid Southampton’s current predicament.

The report explained that even though the midfielder does not have a release clause in his contract, the Saints will not stop him from leaving if they go down this season.

Football Insider also backed up Spurs’ interest in Ward-Prowse a few days later and the publication added that the North London club could face competition for the 28-year-old from Aston Villa, who were said to be ‘long-term admirers’ of the player.

O’Rourke believes that Kane will only have good things to say about his England teammate if he is enquired.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I’m sure if they asked for Kane’s input into a potential move for Ward-Prowse it would only get positives.

“He’s a top player, Ward-Prowse. He’s proven in the Premier League, England international, and scores so many goals and provides so many goals as well for Southampton. “I think he’d be a great fit for Tottenham if they did move for him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not as enthusiastic about the prospect of signing Ward-Prowse as some other Spurs fans are. While the 28-year-old’s set-piece ability will certainly be a massive asset, I am not convinced he will offer more in open play than most of our current central midfield options.
