Journalist boss Leicester boss is ‘happy’ to sell rumoured Spurs target this summer

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Brendan Rodgers is happy for Leicester City to cash in on rumoured Tottenham target Youri Tielemans this summer.

Tielemans has been a consistent performer for Leicester since his move from Monaco in 2019 but the midfielder has struggled to hit his usual heights this season in what has been a campaign to forget for the Foxes.

The 25-year-old has just 12 months left to run on his contract at the King Power Stadium (Transfermarkt) and the midfielder has admitted that he is ready to make a step up to a ‘top European club’ (talkSPORT).

GiveMeSport claimed last month that Tottenham plan to make a move for the Leicester star in the summer should they qualify for the Champions League.

However, this claim has been contradicted by The Telegraph, who reported recently that some Spurs have reservations regarding a move for the Tielemans.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are also thought to be keen on snapping up the Belgian international, with Mikel Arteta’s side said to be ‘confident’ that they can win the race for the Foxes star if they secure Champions League qualification (The Sun).

Jones has now said that Rodgers is happy for Tielemens to be sold as he believes that the midfielder may have already reached his ceiling.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think the most interesting thing on Tielemans is that I’m told Brendan Rodgers is actually happy for him to move on.

“He thinks he might have hit his ceiling and not sure he gets much better from here and thinks he can actually be replaced.”

Spurs Web Opinion

From the evidence of Tielemens’ performances this season, I can understand why Rodgers might think that – a prime example was the sloppy pass he made which gifted Spurs a late win earlier in the season.

However, the 25-year-old’s struggles might be down to him having his head elsewhere and so, a transfer could rejuvenate him.

While I would take Tielemens at Spurs as a squad player, there are certainly better options out there if we are looking for a regular starter.
