Journalist claims 25-year-old would have chosen Spurs over Arsenal

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Youri Tielemans would have preferred to join Tottenham over Arsenal, but suggested that neither North London club have seemingly made a move for the Leicester City star as of yet.

Spurs have made six new additions so far this summer in the form of Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet and Djed Spence.

Reports indicate that Antonio Conte’s men could still secure a creative midfielder before the window closes (Evening Standard).

Tielemans was mooted to be one of the options on Tottenham’s radar earlier this summer (GiveMeSport) while Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in the 25-year-old (Football.London).

However, Alasdair Gold said on his YouTube Channel (starting at 38:44) earlier this month that the Belgian international is not on Spurs’ wishlist at the moment.

Jones has now suggested that Tielemens might have to stay put at the King Power Stadium for one more season as neither Tottenham nor Arsenal have pushed ahead with a move for him.

The journalist said on The Done Deal Show: “Where does this leave Tielemans? That was his best chance of going anywhere.

“He would have chosen Tottenham over Arsenal because they have Champions League football, and I still remember getting the text last season saying if Tottenham get fourth spot Tielemans is at the top of their list, but it just hasn’t come through.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I fully expect Tottenham to sign a creative midfielder before the window closes. Tielemans might be a tempting option for Conte, given the fact that he is accustomed to the Premier League. However, it seems like the club might be exploring other options at the moment.
