Journalist claims £25m-valued star would take up rest of Spurs’ transfer budget

Journalist Paul Brown believes Tottenham would need to spend the entirety of what is left of their summer transfer budget to sign Youri Tielemans.

Despite already making six new signings so far this summer, reports indicate that Spurs are still on the lookout for a creative midfielder and another central defender (Evening Standard).

Tielemans was mooted to be one of the options on Tottenham’s radar earlier this summer (GiveMeSport) while the Lilywhites’ North London rivals Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in the 25-year-old (Football.London).

It was reported back in April that Tielemans could be available for just £25m this summer (The Telegraph).

Dean Jones said on The Done Deal Show last week that the Leicester City midfielder would prefer a move to Spurs over Arsenal this summer but added that neither club have made a concrete move for the Belgian international so far.

Brown has now revealed that Tielemans has been on Tottenham’s radar for a long time and argued that the former Monaco midfielder would fit in well into Antonio Conte’s set-up.

When asked about Spurs’ interest in Tielemans, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think he’s someone that Spurs have looked at for quite a long time and that he might be a better fit than someone like Maddison in the system.

“Conte has done quite a lot of retooling in attack and midfield, but I think he has some of the kind of qualities that would fit at Spurs. He has a good passing range and I think he’d get involved and be a good signing for them.

“But I think that would be the only other signing they make. They’d have to spend the rest of their budget to get him I think.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Given that Tielemans has just one year left on his contract with Leicester, he is likely to be a cheap option. I would certainly take the 25-year-old at Tottenham as a squad player.

The fact that he has plenty of experience in the Premier League might appeal to Conte. I would not be surprised if Spurs made a late move for the Belgian this summer.
