Journalist claims 64-year-old manager is still on Tottenham’s wishlist

Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has said that Tottenham Hotspur could make an approach for Luciano Spalletti, now that their pursuit of Arne Slot has collapsed.

Spurs appear to be back to square one in their search for a new head coach after the Arne Slot move fell through and it remains to be seen who the club will turn to next.

Multiple publications have suggested that Ange Postecoglu, Luis Enrique, and Ruben Amorim (talkSPORT) are among the names at the top of the North London club’s wishlist.

Names such as Graham Potter (Daily Mail) and Brendan Rodgers (Football Transfers) have also been put forward as potential targets.

The Times even suggested on Wednesday evening that Tottenham might resume their talks with Julian Nagelsmann, having called off discussions with the German two weeks ago.

Galetti has now claimed that Spalletti also very much remains on the Lilywhites’ wishlist and stated that a move for the Napoli manager could depend on which sporting director arrives in N17.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “The situation on Spalletti is quite complicated. He wants to leave Napoli after a triumphant season.

“The reason for the farewell is linked to the future technical project that, at the moment, the president Aurelio De Laurentiis is not sure how to prepare for next season.

“However, Napoli triggered the option for one more year, but Spalletti wanted more guarantees from the club to stay.

“To complicate the situation even more, there is a clause in the contract of the Napoli coach in which he must sit out for one year in case of early termination of the agreement.

“Despite this, the interest from big European teams is concrete. And among these, there is Tottenham.

“The Italian coach said a few days ago that no club had made any official proposal until now. This is true. But Spurs have included him on their list.

“A lot will depend on who will be Tottenham’s next sporting director. But anyway, there will be a development soon. As we know, Tottenham are still assessing who will have to lead the team next year.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I would be extremely surprised if Tottenham pursued Spalletti as he does not tick any of the boxes that the club are seemingly looking for.

Besides, I believe that Napoli’s success this season should primarily be put down to their excellent recruitment rather than the 64-year-old’s tactical setup.
