Journalist claims agent has been instructed to sell rumoured Spurs target in January

Journalist Ian McGarry has said on The Transfer Window Podcast that Chelsea have instructed a high-profile agent to find a buyer for rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Antonio Rudiger.

Tottenham were linked with a deadline day move for Rudiger in the previous transfer window (Football Insider) but the move failed to materialise.

The German international has only started one Premier League game for Frank Lampard’s side this season and reports indicate that he is keen to leave Stamford Bridge next month, particularly with the Euros coming up next summer (Eurosport).

The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed last month that Chelsea were willing to do business with Tottenham during the last window but it was Rudiger who rejected the chance to move to North London on loan.

The defender reportedly thought it might be problematic for him to return to Chelsea after a loan spell with their London rivals.

If McGarry is to be believed, the Blues will look to cash-in on the 27-year-old next month in order to fund a move for West Ham’s Declan Rice.

He said on the Transfer Window Podcast: “We have been told at The Transfer Window, that a very prominent agent has been given a mandate to sell, if possible, or certainly put on loan two players, and those two players are the out of favour goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, as well as Antonio Rudiger who has started just one Premier League game this season.

“And that is in order to raise money for a bid for Declan Rice, a transfer which we have long been talking about here on this podcast.”
