Journalist claims Bastoni hopes might not be completely dead for Spurs

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has said that he would not rule out Tottenham making another attempt to sign Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni this summer.

Bastoni is reportedly Antonio Conte’s number one target for the left centre-back role (Football.London) but the defender’s agent dented Tottenham’s hopes last month by insisting that his client will remain at Inter (Football Italia).

The speculation linking Spurs with a move for the 23-year-old has gone quiet over recent weeks.

Over the last couple of days, reports have indicated that the North London club are on the verge of snapping up Clement Lenglet from Barcelona on an initial loan deal with an option to buy him permanently (90 min).

Despite the recent news regarding Lenglet, Eccleshare has claimed that Tottenham could make another attempt to snap up Bastoni this summer.

The journalist suggested that the words of the centre-back’s agent might have been intended to make it seem as though the player is not agitating for a move.

Eccleshare told the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel: “Even someone like Bastoni, I wouldn’t rule that out.

“I know his agent has come out and said he loves Inter and everything, but that’s happened before and then moved, partly they don’t want to seem like they’re agitating for a move.

“But I still think, maybe I’m hearing what I want to hear, but I don’t think that deal is totally dead.”

Now that Inter look set to sell Skriniar for big money, it looks likely that Bastoni will stay put at the San Siro. In fact, Conte and Paratici may have decided to sign Lenglet on loan right now so that they can try again for Bastoni or Jasko Gvardiol in January or next summer.
