Journalist claims Bundesliga midfielder has informed club that he wants to join Spurs

According to Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Marcel Sabitzer has told RB Leipzig that he wishes to join Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham were first linked with the versatile attacking midfielder back in March after he put in a brilliant display against them in the Champions League round of 16 and helped knock Jose Mourinho’s side out of the competition (Bild).

The speculation linking the North Londoners with the Austrian international has intensified recently.

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said last month that Spurs had enquired about Sabitzer while Mundo Deportivo also reported a couple of weeks ago that a January move for the Leipzig star could be on the cards.

The Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick reported yesterday that Sabitzer is the man Mourinho wants to bring in as a replacement for Dele Alli, who is expected to depart the club in January.

If Konur is to be believed, the 26-year-old has informed the Leipzig hierarchy that he wants to make the switch to Spurs.

The journalist claims that Tottenham are currently negotiating a transfer fee with the Bundesliga club for the former Rapid Wien star.

If Alli is leaving next month, Sabtizer is as good a replacement as we can get for the England international. He will be a much better fit for Jose Mourinho’s system as the Austrian is more disciplined out of possession and comes alive during attacking transitions.
