Journalist claims centre-back is ‘increasingly open’ to Tottenham move

Relevo journalist Matteo Moretto has claimed that Barcelona centre-back Clement Lenglet is now ‘increasingly open’ to joining Tottenham Hotspur.

The speculation linking Lenglet with a move to Tottenham has gone into hyperdrive over recent days.

The print edition of Sport – 27/06/22 (as relayed by Sport Witness) revealed on Monday that while Antonio Conte’s men want to sign the Frenchman on an initial loan deal with a purchase option.

Mundo Deportivo subsequently reported yesterday that while Spurs and Barca are close to agreeing on a loan deal for Lenglet, the centre-back is yet to give his approval for the move.

The report added that Antonio Conte’s men have issued the 27-year-old an ultimatum, making it clear that he has to make a decision by the end of this week.

Moretto has now taken to social media to reveal that while Lenglet has not said ‘yes’ to the transfer, he is now warming to the idea of moving to the North London club.

The journalist added that Spurs are pushing hard for the Barca star and have scheduled a key meeting regarding the transfer at the end of the week.

Meanwhile, Marca have reported that Lenglet is one step away from the move after agreeing to join Tottenham.

Spurs Web Opinion

What is interesting is that none of these reports over recent days about Lenglet are coming from journalists with sources inside Tottenham.

It seems to be primarily been coming from sources at Barcelona, which is why I am sceptical about how serious Spurs’ interest in the Frenchman is.

I suspect that Tottenham view Lenglet as an emergency fallback option rather than as their primary left centre-back target.
