Journalist claims club will be ‘desperate’ to sign Spurs man, but will have other options

Pete O’Rourke has claimed Celtic will be ‘desperate’ to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis from Tottenham this summer.

Carter-Vickers has enjoyed an impressive campaign with the Hoops after joining the club on a season-long loan at the start of the season.

The 24-year-old has become a fixture in Ange Postecoglou’s defence this term and played a key role in the club’s League Cup success in December.

Celtic have an option to make the deal permanent for around £6 million this summer and are reportedly pushing to put together a transfer (Daily Record).

However, the Glasgow-based side face competition in their pursuit of Carter-Vickers, with SBI Soccer recently noting Wolves, Leicester and Watford have all been tracking the USA international.

And O’Rourke believes Celtic will be keen to tie down Carter-Vickers as soon as they can, but expects the Scottish side will have other targets in view if a deal falls through.

O’Rourke told GiveMeSport: “He’s been really impressive at Celtic, slotted straight into the team under Ange Postecoglou and been among the top performers for the club.

“I think they will be desperate to get this deal done, but I’m sure Celtic’s scouting and recruitment team have got other options on the table if they aren’t able to sign the USA international.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Carter-Vickers has had a successful loan spell with Celtic and Tottenham will be happy that they are likely going to receive a fee for him this summer, given how he’s struggled to break through at the club.

But even if Celtic miss out on him, there will be plenty of other suitors waiting in the wings to secure a deal which Spurs certainly won’t complain about.
