Journalist claims Conte had ‘face-to-face meetings’ with Spurs target in summer

Ukrainian journalist Viktor Vatsko has claimed that Antonio Conte met Atalanta midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi face-to-face to discuss a potential transfer to Tottenham in the summer.

Malinovskyi ended up staying put at Atalanta despite being heavily linked with a move to Spurs in the summer (TMW) and over recent weeks, reports from Italy have indicated that Conte’s men are ready to reignite their interest in the attacking midfielder when the transfer window reopens in January.

Calciomercato reported last week that Tottenham have already made contact with Atalanta over a deal for the 29-year-old, who is allegedly valued at €30m (£26.1m).

Italian journalist Rudy Galetti said on his official website a couple of days ago that despite being linked with a move to Spurs, the Ukrainian might end up staying at the Serie A as Inter Milan were also intent on snapping up the player.

However, Vatsko has now suggested that Conte is extremely keen on bringing Malinovskyi to Spurs in January.

The journalist said on his YouTube channel: (Gasperini) already wanted to sell Malinovskyi in the summer. (Malinovskyi and Conte) had face-to-face meetings. He wanted to sign him, he sees him in his plans.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do think a player of Malinovskyi’s profile would strengthen Tottenham’s squad but I am sceptical about whether he would be Conte’s first-choice target.

If the Italian was that keen on the Atalanta star, I suspect Spurs would have snapped him up in the summer transfer window.

So, perhaps the North London club view the Ukrainian as a backup option in case moves for our primary targets fall through.
