Journalist claims Conte might disagree with senior Spurs players over team-mate

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has said that Antonio Conte may not agree with the senior Tottenham stars over Joe Rodon.

Rodon has struggled for game time under Conte, having made just two starts since the Italian arrived at Tottenham at the start of November.

The centre-back was said to have been keen on leaving the club in January either on loan or on a permanent deal in order to get game time under his belt (Football.London).

However, a transfer did not materialise for the Welshman last month, with some sources suggesting that there was no concrete interest in the defender during the transfer window (Sky Sports).

When asked last week why he was not picking Rodon, Conte praised the former Swansea man’s commitment in training but insisted that he was selecting the best team available to him (Daily Mail).

Football.London reported earlier this week that some senior Spurs stars have been impressed with Rodon’s ability to play in a three-man defence and for pushing for the 24-year-old to be involved.

When this was put to O’Rourke, he told GiveMeSport: “It seems that Antonio Conte is not as favourable towards Rodon as some of the senior players in the Spurs camp are.

“But at the end of the day, the decision rests with the manager, not the players, so Conte obviously sees something different from what the players do.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Conte is not the first Spurs boss to overlook Rodon. The likes of Mourinho, Mason and Nuno also preferred the likes of Dier, Sanchez and Tanganga over him. The fact that the different coaches who have watched the Welshman in training are hesitant to give him game time, suggests that he has some obvious flaws in his game.
