Journalist claims Dele Alli’s pre-season form could be bad news for two Spurs stars

Football.London’s Rob Guest has backed Dele Alli to be heavily involved in the Tottenham team at the start of the season following the midfielder’s impressive showing in pre-season so far.

The midfielder had a stop-start season last time out due to injury problems and failed to build on the early improved run of form he showed after Jose Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino at the helm in November.

However, the 24-year-old seems to have put his injury troubles behind him after looking extremely sharp in all of Tottenham’s pre-season games so far.

After playing a part in all three of Spurs goal against Ipswich, the England international got on the score sheet against Reading with a typical cheeky finish, which promoted both Eric Dier and Jose Mourinho to admit after the game that they are excited by his form.

Guest believes that the former MK Dons man could seal his place in the number ten role at the start of next season, which could mean that Giovani Lo Celso gets shifted to a deeper position.

The journalist backs new signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to start alongside Lo Celso in the middle of the park, which raises questions about Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko’s place in the team.

Guest also suggests that if Dele continues his form into the start of the season, it could be bad news for Sissoko’s and Winks’ respective futures at the club.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am convinced that Jose and Sacramento always envisioned moving Lo Celso back into the pivot next season. Sissoko only got as much game time as he did last season as Mourinho could not trust any of our other midfielders to do the defensive work required, particularly with Dier being shifted to the backline. Hojbjerg’s arrival will likely limit the Frenchman’s minutes but I still expect Winks to play a big part.
