Journalist claims Emerson Royal is ‘not particularly keen’ to leave Spurs in January

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Emerson Royal is not particularly keen on leaving Tottenham Hotspur during the current transfer window.

It was Gold himself who reported via Football.London over the weekend that Tottenham are expected to offload at least one right wing-back this month as Antonio Conte is keen on adding reinforcements in the position.

The journalist suggested that Emerson is the player the club are expected to listen to offers for as the Brazilian has fallen behind Matt Doherty in the pecking order.

This information was backed up by Inter Live, who claimed on Monday that the Premier League club want a fee of around €25m (£22m) for the former Real Betis man this month.

The publication added that Inter Milan could be tempted to make a move for the 23-year-old as the Serie A club could be in the market for a replacement for Denzel Dumfries.

Gold has now revealed that Emerson is attracting interest from Serie A and La Liga but suggested that the player would rather stay put at Spurs.

When asked about the right-back’s future, the journalist said in a Q&A on Football.London: “There’s interest from clubs in both Spain and Italy about signing Emerson in a loan-to-buy deal during the January transfer window, but that interest is yet to materialise into a concrete offer to Tottenham.

“The player is not particularly keen to move on and it will be interesting to see how the dynamic works if Spurs really push for a new right wing-back.”

Not only is Emerson the worst fit for Conte’s system among the right wing-backs at the Italian’s disposal but he is also the one among the three players who is likely to attract the most interest, given his age and the success he had in Spain before his switch to Spurs.

So, he is overwhelmingly likely to leave during this transfer window but there is still a small possibility of Conte choosing to hang on to the Brazilian as the third choice despite signing another right wing-back and loaning out Djed Spence.
