The Times journalist Duncan Castles has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur and England are at loggerheads over Harry Kane after the striker reportedly picked up a muscle injury.
News first emerged of the England captain’s injury late last night, with reports indicating that he was a major doubt for England’s Nations League clash against Belgium this evening (Sky Sports).
Kane was rested for the Three Lions ‘3-0 win over Wales on Thursday, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Danny Ings both netting their first goals for their country in the Spurs man’s absence.
There has been plenty said already over the last week by both Jose Mourinho and Gareth Southgate about the possibility of over-playing Kane (PA Sport’s Jonathan Veal and The Evening Standard) and it now appears that the two are not seeing eye to eye with regards to the striker’s latest injury.
Castles revealed that Tottenham do not want the 27-year-old to take the field against Belgium this evening but England have refused to release the striker from national team duty due to the importance of the fixtures coming up.
The journalist also reveals that this would not be the first time Southgate has picked an injured player to start for England, with Phil Jones starting a friendly for the Three Lions in 2017, with ‘six local anaesthetic injections’.

Mourinho was extremely cordial when speaking about Southgate publicly last week but that might well change if Kane starts against Belgium tonight. I still do not think the 27-year-old will be risked by Southgate if he is not fit, especially since the likes of Danny Ings and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are in good form.
