Journalist claims Everton in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Spurs-linked defender

Transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Everton are in advanced talks to sign rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target, Max Aarons.

Aarons has continued his fine form for Norwich this season on the back of his impressive showing in the top-flight last campaign and has been linked with many big clubs over the past few months.

The young right-back was rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar last summer but the North Londoners ended up signing Matt Doherty from Wolves instead.

Eurosport revealed at the start of February that Spurs could swoop for him in the summer as a replacement for Serge Aurier.

It has previously been suggested that Bayern Munich and Manchester United are also keen on snapping up the 21-year-old while Everton have been mentioned as potential suitors.

Romano has now said that it is the Toffees who are currently leading the race for Aarons’ signature.

The journalist took to social media to reveal that Carlo Ancelotti’s men have been in talks for the England Under-21 international since February and are hopeful of sealing a deal soon.

Aarons looks like an ideal fit for what we need given our issues at right-back and our problems with fulfilling the homegrown quota.

The 21-year-old also fits the profile of players Spurs tend to target, with his value likely to go up substantially over the coming years.

However, the fact that Jose has been sacked might have completely changed the club’s transfer plans. The futures of Aurier and Doherty could very well depend on the manager Levy hires.
