Journalist claims Jose Mourinho is ‘not interested’ in signing 27-year-old

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has poured cold water on Tottenham’s rumoured pursuit of Jesse Lingard by revealing that the Manchester United man is not on the Lilywhites’ radar.

ESPN reported last week that Jose Mourinho wants to be reunited with Lingard, with the midfielder said to have become frustrated with his lack of opportunities at Old Trafford.

It was claimed that Spurs were looking to sign the 27-year-old to replace Dele, who has not been included in the squad for the North Londoner’s last two matches.

Reports indicate that the Tottenham midfielder has been offered to many clubs around Europe (Fabrizio Romano), with Mourinho refusing to rule out the possibility of the England international leaving the club (Football.London).

While Eccleshare did not reveal where the Spurs midfielder’s future lay, he did insist that there was “no chance” that the club will sign Lingard in this transfer window.

He claimed that Mourinho is not interested in bringing the United star to North London.

Spurs Web Opinion

Jose Mourinho has insisted that he needs two players for every position in order to make the squad more balanced. Dele appears to be the odd man out at the moment, with Erik Lamela and Tanguy Ndombele (and Lo Celso) capable of playing the number ten role.

A potential Dele exit looks to be a measure to balance the squad. It would make little sense to replace him with another like-for-like player like Lingard, especially since the United man reportedly wants regular football, which he is not going to get at Spurs.
