Journalist claims ‘jury is still out’ on Ange Postecoglou and his new Spurs

Journalist Paul Brown has said that we have to wait and see how Ange Postescoglou responds when other teams start adapting to Tottenham’s style of play and come up with effective plans to stop them.

Tottenham have made an exceptional start to the season, having won six of their eight Premier League matches, with their only two draws coming away at the Emirates and Gtech Stadium.

In fact, it was revealed on BBC’s Match of the Day (07/10/23) recently that of the 28 sides in Premier League history who have picked up 20 points or more from their first eight games, 26 have gone on to finish in the top four while 11 have won the title.

It is not just the results that have been impressive but also the performances, with Tottenham dominating proceedings in almost every single one of their matches so far.

Does Ange Postecoglou still have a lot to prove?

However, Brown believes that Spurs are still benefiting from the novelty factor and that their true test will come when teams start to suss out their system.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “When you start to see teams adapting to this in better ways, that’s when we’ll really see what kind of manager Postecoglou is. Can he react to the way other teams are adapting to his style and make sure that it’s still successful?

“Right now it’s doing so well that it’s hard to criticise. But there have been lots of managers who’ve done well for the first few months with a new style of play, transforming a team and then slowly when team stripes start to work it out, that’s when the real test comes. So I think the jury is still out.”

It is worth noting that the likes of Guardiola and Klopp have essentially stuck to the same system (barring a few small tweaks) throughout their careers.

Opposition teams are well aware of how they are going to line up but that does not mean that they are successful in stopping them, and the same could be the case with Postecoglou’s Spurs.
