Journalist claims Levy’s ‘doomsday scenario’ is now becoming ‘increasingly likely’

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has claimed that it is now becoming ‘increasingly likely’ that Harry Kane will run down his contract at Tottenham Hotspur.

Kane is set to run into the final year of his contract at Tottenham this June and the speculation over his future is understandably intensifying as we get closer to the summer transfer window.

Some reports over recent days have claimed that the striker would only make a decision on a new deal once Spurs appoint a new head coach (Fabrizio Romano – the House of Champions podcast) while others have insisted that Kane has already decided against signing a contract at Spurs (Daily Star).

The Telegraph claimed on Friday that the England captain is keeping all his options open and could even decide to run down his contract and leave on a free transfer in 2024.

Eccleshare has now explained that seeing a key player run down his contract has been the ‘doomsday scenario’ for Daniel Levy ever since Sol Campbell did that back in 2001, soon after the ENIC takeover.

However, the journalist adds that the possibility of Kane doing that now looks ‘increasingly likely’ as there are ‘no indications at present’ that the centre-back would sign a new deal.

If Tottenham do bring Julian Nagelsmann through the door, I believe that Kane could perhaps be convinced to sign a new deal.

However, if the striker decides against signing a contract, it would be in the club’s best interest to cash in on him this summer and use the funds to rebuild the squad.
