Journalist claims linked-away Spurs player ‘doesn’t want to go’ this summer

Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge has revealed that Harry Winks does not want to leave Tottenham this summer and insisted that he would not be surprised to see the midfielder stay put at the club.

There have been a few mixed reports about Winks’ future over the past few weeks, with some sources suggesting that Nuno Espirito Santo is prepared to give him a chance while others have claimed that he is on his way out.

Football Insider reported last week that the Portuguese coach informed Winks that his game time would be limited at Tottenham next season and gave the green light for the club to sell the midfielder to a Premier League rival.

Fabrizio Romano has also hinted that the England international’s future at Tottenham is in doubt.

Winks is alleged to be on Rafael Benitez’s radar at Everton and has also been linked with a surprise move to Manchester United.

Bridge has now revealed that the Spurs academy graduate could well stick around at the club for another season.

He told Football Fancast: “Harry Winks is locally trained, homegrown, he ticks every box.

“Spurs fans think he needs a new challenge and I probably agree, but he doesn’t want to go, there’s that.

“So, it won’t be that easy, and how much is he worth in this climate? So, don’t be surprised to see Harry Winks stay – and I know he’s not massively popular with Spurs fans.”

Winks has had enough opportunities to prove his critics wrong but he has undoubtedly regressed over the past couple of years and looks in need of a new challenge. I believe the decision on the midfielder’s future must be fully left down to Nuno.
