Journalist claims Liverpool and Spurs may look at same PL defender this summer

Journalist Ben Jacobs has told Caught Offside that he believes Liverpool are now interested in Wolves defender Max Kilman, who is also thought to be a target for Tottenham Hotspur.

Kilman signed for Wolves in 2018 from non-league side Maidenhead, and has enjoyed an incredible rise over the last two seasons.

He has now made 94 appearances for Wolves (Transfermarkt) and is regarded as one of the finest young centre-backs in the Premier League.

The 25-year-old has long been touted as a possible solution to Tottenham’s defensive issues.

Indeed, Jacobs previously claimed Kilman was on Tottenham’s radar ahead of a possible move to North London this summer (Last Word on Spurs).

A tall, commanding defender with good ball-playing abilities is hard to come by, but Kilman ticks all those boxes. Plus, he is a homegrown talent, which only adds to his value to any club in the top flight.

It is thought Spurs will look to reinforce the centre of defence as a priority in the transfer market at the end of the season, as reported by The Athletic and Football.London.

But, if Kilman is indeed a target, they may face competition from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool now.

Jacobs said: “I am also told Liverpool, like Spurs, would consider Wolves’ Max Kilman.

“You could make an argument Liverpool need a left and right-sided centre-back even if both don’t play instantly together as a new first-choice pairing in 2023/24.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Max Kilman has proven he can handle himself at the very top level and he appears to have outgrown Wolves now and I expect him to move on in the summer.

It makes sense that Liverpool are looking at him, and while there are plenty of options out there, I think Spurs would be foolish to let Kilman join a rival and so they should make a move for him.
