Journalist claims Liverpool are monitoring rumoured Conte target ‘very carefully’

TuttoMercatoWeb editor Marco Conterio has claimed that Liverpool could make a move for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez, who is also rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Inter Live reported last month that Spurs are set to pursue Martinez when the transfer window reopens in the summer and this was subsequently backed up by TMW, who added that Antonio Conte was keen on reuniting with the Inter star at Spurs.

According to Sport, Barcelona are also eyeing the Argentine international as a backup to Erling Haaland and the Nerrauzri would be open to selling the forward for around €70m (£58.4m).

The print edition of Il Giorno (as relayed by FC Inter 1908) claimed last week that Arsenal and Manchester United have also ‘taken their first steps’ towards signing the 24-year-old.

If Conterio’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs might also have competition to contend with from Liverpool for Martinez’s signature in the summer.

The journalist told FC Inter News: “Inter are moving and watching many players, but they are also watching many clubs be interested in their players.

“One above all is Lautaro Martinez, who is very popular in England. Liverpool are monitoring him very carefully.”

Spurs Web Opinion

One would hope that Conte’s relationship with Martinez and Paraitic’s contacts in Italy, would give Spurs an advantage over their rivals in the race for the Argentine.

However, it could prove quite difficult to convince the player to join us over the likes of Liverpool, particularly if we do not have Champions League football to offer.
