Gianluca Di Marzio has said that Tottenham managerial target Roberto De Zerbi would like his next job to be in the Premier League.
De Zerbi, who has impressed since taking over at Brighton from Graham Potter back in September of last year, is one of several candidates who has been linked with the Spurs hot seat over the last few weeks (The Athletic).
However, the speculation linking the Italian with a move to N17 seems to have gone quiet recently.
Reports over the last few days suggest that Tottenham have narrowed in on Julian Nagelsmann, Vincent Kompany, Thomas Frank and Arne Slot as their top four candidates (Daily Star).
However, Di Marzio has now claimed that De Zerbi’s name is still very much on Tottenham’s wishlist and also confirmed what we have heard from some other sources regarding his release clause.
The journalist revealed that the 43-year-old has no intention of returning to Italy and that his next job is likely to be within the Premier League.
Di Marzio told Sky Sport Italia (as relayed by Football Italia): “I believe he’s one of the candidates for Tottenham.
“He has a €13m clause at Brighton and I believe they’ll make no discounts, especially after getting €25m for Potter.
“Plus I don’t think Roberto wants to return to Italy. I think he wants to continue on this path.
“It could be at Brighton, Tottenham, or maybe Liverpool or Chelsea in one year, we’ll see, but I think Roberto wants to continue in the Premier League.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Of all the candidates that we have linked with, the only person I would take over De Zerbi is Nagelsmann.
It is surprising to me that the likes of Kompany, Slot and Frank are seemingly being talked about as contenders while the Italian no longer seems to be one of the frontrunners for the job.
