Journalist claims midfielder is ‘one to watch’ for Spurs ahead of January window

CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs has told Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter to keep their eyes peeled for a potential move involving Juventus’ Weston McKennie.

The 24-year-old played a key role for the USA at the World Cup in helping his country to reach the round of sixteen stage, where they were eliminated by the Netherlands.

McKennie has been a regular starter for Max Allegri in Turin this season having played sixteen matches across all competitions, scoring three goals prior to the tournament in Qatar and had to sit out the last three matches in Serie A due to injury (transfermarkt).

The midfielder is well-known by Tottenham’s managing director of football, Fabio Paratici who brought him to Juventus from Schalke, with respected journalist Alasdair Gold claiming that the Italian considers his previous recruit to be a superstar (YouTube).

Tottenham are well stocked in the centre of midfield, but are crying out for some creativity. McKennie is more of a box-to-box midfielder but does pop up with some important goals.

Antonio Conte already has Rodrigo Bentancur, Oliver Skipp, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Yves Bissouma to choose from, Spurs need to prioritise bringing in fresh faces where they are desperately lacking, including on the right side of defence.
