Journalist claims Mourinho ‘called’ Spurs star over possible January transfer

Telefoot journalist Julien Maynard has revealed that Jose Mourinho wants to take Tanguy Ndombele to AS Roma.

Although Antonio Conte has played down the fact that Ndombele was jeered off by Spurs fans against Morecambe on Sunday, some expect that we have seen the last of the midfielder under the Italian.

According to reports, Tottenham are open to either selling on loaning out the Frenchman this month and are even willing to include him in discussions for potential swap deals.

However, Football Italia have claimed that the former Lyon man is unlikely to move to Serie A as Italian clubs are not ready to match his £200,000 per week salary.

This has now been contradicted by Maynard, who has said that Mourinho wants to reunite with Ndombele in Rome.

Mourinho’s relationship with Ndombele was not particularly positive during the start of the Portuguese coach’s time at Spurs but the midfielder did eventually win the 58-year-old over.

Maynard has now said that the former Tottenham head coach has phoned the French international over a move to the Stadio Olimpico.

I cannot see Roma being able to match Ndombele’s salary. Unless the Frenchman is willing to take a wage cut, I can only see the Italian club signing the midfielder on loan. Even then, Tottenham would have to likely subsidise a portion of his wages.
