Journalist claims Mourinho’s comments could tempt Kane to leave Spurs

The Mirror’s chief sports writer, Andy Dunn, has blasted Jose Mourinho’s for his comments following Tottenham’s 3-0 defeat to Leipzig last week.

Spurs went into the game with several key players missing and were taught a harsh lesson by the Bundesliga side from start to finish.

After the game, Mourinho understandably pointed out the injuries that the Lilywhites have had to deal with but also went on to claim that every player on the Leipzig bench would get into his team (Football.London).

Dunn believes that comment by the Spurs boss may have triggered Kane to question if he belongs in North London.

The England captain has been out of action since picking up a hamstring injury against Southampton on New Year’s Day. His future has also been subject to speculation in recent weeks (the Telegraph).

Dunn believes that Mourinho’s comments are now making it harder for the club to keep hold of their star striker.

In his column in the Mirror, Dunn wrote, “What must Kane think when Mourinho utterly demeans the depth of quality in this Tottenham squad?

“After the defeat in Germany, Mourinho claimed every player on the Leipzig bench would get into his team. If that is really the case then why would Kane not want to move away?

“Because if that really is the case, the chances of Kane winning anything any time soon with Spurs are zero.

“Ahead of that Leipzig game, Mourinho was up to his old bragging tricks.

“You know the type. It is where he tells you he does not want to talk about the trophies he has won by listing the trophies he has won. Every single one of them, down to his two Community Shields.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe Jose’s statement about the Leipzig bench was specifically to point out the difference in terms of options for the two sides due to our ridiculous injury situation. It clearly wasn’t meant as a pot-shot at the quality of our squad as he says in the same press conference that he’s happy with the squad he has at Spurs and can’t wait to have everyone fit.
