Journalist claims move for Bundesliga duo would ‘make sense’ for Spurs in January

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed it would make sense for Tottenham to sign Bundesliga attacking duo Marcus Thuram and Youssoufa Moukoko in January, given the players that the North London club are planning to let go.

90 min reported a couple of weeks ago that Antonio Conte wants attacking reinforcements in January, stating that Thuram is one of the names on the Spurs boss’ wishlist on the back of his explosive start to the season.

The 25-year-old’s contract with Borussia Monchengladbach runs out in the summer and he is thus expected to be available for just €10m (£8.6m) in January (Nicolo Schira).

Tottenham are not the only club who are after Thuram, with the Frenchman also alleged to be of interest to Arsenal (Gazzetta via Sport Witness), Newcastle United (The Sun) and Inter Milan (CalcioMercato) among others.

Spurs have also been linked with another Bundesliga hotshot in Moukoko ahead of the January transfer window, with the Lilywhites said to have sent scouts to Germany to watch the Dortmund starlet this season (90 min).

Jones believes that both the Dortmund and Gladbach attackers will improve the Tottenham squad.

When asked about the speculation linking Spurs with Thuram and Moukoko, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “Yeah, definitely they could both add to what they’ve got. They both make sense in different ways from things I’ve heard about how they intend to move the squad on.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I am certain that Tottenham will sign a wide forward in January. Conte will ideally want someone who is adept at playing on the right as a backup to Kulusevski as Gil is likely to be loaned out.

Thuram will be a much better fit for the role than Moukoko, who likes to play centrally, but there is likely to be a lot more competition for the Frenchman’s signature, given his current contract situation.
