Journalist claims not many Spurs fans would cry if left-back was sold this summer

Pete O’Rourke has suggested many Tottenham fans would not be upset if Real Madrid exercised the option to re-sign Sergio Reguilon this summer.

Reguilon secured a move to Spurs worth £25 million two years ago, signing a contract with the club until 2025 (Evening Standard).

The Spain international has endured a contrasting stint in north London so far and has subsequently been linked with a move back to LaLiga, with Fabrizio Romano claiming Real’s arch-rivals Barcelona are one of the clubs interested in a transfer.

Los Blancos included a buy-back clause lasting two years in Reguilon’s contract upon his sale to Tottenham, which is thought to be worth around £28 million (Football.London).

And while the summer transfer window is their final chance to activate the clause, journalist O’Rourke does not believe Reguilon’s potential departure from Spurs would cause the club’s supporters to shed many tears.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, he said: “If Real Madrid came in with their buy-back option, I don’t think there’d be many crying, and I’m surprised, because he is a proper left wing-back.”

Reguilon has made 31 appearances in all competitions this season, but was recently left on the bench for Tottenham’s draw against Brentford on Saturday (Transfermarkt).

Reguilon has produced some very promising performances at Spurs so far, but also some very unconvincing ones. He does have the potential to be a good wing-back, but his decision-making lets him down quite a bit which has been frustrating to watch at times.
