Journalist claims one on-loan Spurs player could return in January and other could be sold

Football.London have revealed that Giovani Lo Celso could be sold by Tottenham in January while Joe Rodon could return to the club from his loan spell at Rennes earlier than first expected.

Lo Celso had started the season in fine form for Villarreal, however, the midfielder has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since October and as a result, played no part in Argentina’s victorious World Cup campaign after having to undergo surgery on the injury.

Meanwhile, Rodon has found himself falling down Bruno Genesio’s pecking order at Rennes, with Stade Rennais Online reporting last week that the Welshman is now their fourth choice centre-back behind Christopher Wooh, Arthur Theate and Warmed Omari.

The report by Alasdair Gold claims the 25-year-old only joined the Ligue 1 club for regular game time and his loan spell could be cut short in January.

This has now been backed up by Gold, who has stated that all parties could agree to terminate the loan deal in the weeks ahead if the centre-back struggles for game time at Roazhon Park and head elsewhere for the remainder of the campaign.

The journalist adds that Tottenham could also cash in on Lo Celso on a permanent basis if a bid is lodged for the midfielder in January since the loan deal for Villarreal contains a break clause if an offer were to arrive for the player.

I expect Rodon to be recalled from Rennes and loaned out to another club in January. However, I doubt Lo Celso would be in favour of leaving Villarreal mid-season. The only way Spurs will likely be able to sell the Argentine permanently next month is if the La Liga club themselves make an offer, plus his hamstring injury could put off any other potential suitors until the summer.
