Journalist claims option for Spurs to buy Danjuma is lower than reported

Football.London’s Rob Guest has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur can make Arnaut Danjuma’s loan deal permanent for just £21m

Spurs’ capture of Danjuma caught almost everyone off guard last week, with the Lilywhites hijacking Everton’s move for the forward after he had completed his medical at Goodison Park (talkSPORT).

The 25-year-old is at his best off the left but is capable of playing across the front three, and thus offers Antonio Conte a lot more options up front.

The Athletic revealed a couple of days ago that Tottenham had tried in vain to sign Danjuma last summer, with the North London club alleged to have wanted to include the deal as part of Giovani Lo Celso’s loan switch to Villarreal.

The Dutchman came off the bench for his Spurs debut in the FA Cup clash against Preston North End on Saturday, looking lively in his 20-minute cameo and finding the back of the net late on as the Lilywhites emerged with a 3-0 win.

Fabrizio Romano stated last week that Spurs have the option to sign Danjuma permanently for €30m (£26.4m) plus add-ons but Guest has now claimed that the clause only stands at €24m (£21.1m)

The journalist said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast: “A deal wasn’t completed with Everton and that allowed Tottenham to nip in. Tottenham now have a new January signing in Arnaut Danjuma. On loan with an option to buy, we understand that is €24m around that figure, which equates to just over £21m.”

Danjuma might have not been Tottenham’s top attacking target but one can understand why the club decided to snap up him, given the terms of the deal. The transfer involves no risk at all while having a major upside if the 25-year-old does prove to be a success at the club.
