Journalist claims PL club would happily drive star to Tottenham or Chelsea

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Newcastle United would be happy to sell rumoured Tottenham target Allan Saint-Maximin this summer.

Despite making six new signings so far this window, Tottenham continue to be on the lookout for opportunities to strengthen in attacking midfield, in the forward areas and at centre-back, according to Football.London’s Alasdair Gold.

The Northern Echo reported last week that Newcastle are ‘bracing themselves’ for an enquiry from Spurs and Chelsea for Saint-Maximin.

The report explained that the Magpies would face a tough decision if one of the two London clubs tabled an offer as they need to raise funds to pursue their transfer targets this summer. It was asserted that Eddie Howe’s men valued the Frenchman at around £40m.

Jones has now stated that the Magpies are actively looking for a buyer for the 25-year-old as they no longer see him as a part of their project.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Saint-Maximin, Newcastle would drive him there (to Chelsea), to be honest.

“I mean, they are looking for a buyer for Saint-Maximin, and if it was Chelsea, their eyes would light up and they would be very keen to get every penny they possibly could out of him.

“I know Tottenham have been linked to Saint-Maximin, too. Newcastle don’t see him as part of their future project.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that Conte has been experimenting with Lucas Moura at right wing-back during pre-season suggests that Spurs might be planning on signing another wide-forward this summer. However, all signs at the moment seem to suggest that Zaniolo is the one that Conte and Paratici want to bring through the door.
