Journalist claims player Spurs sold in 2022 is now seen as ‘the best’ in his league

CBS Sports’ football analyst Charlie Davies has waxed lyrical about Cameron Carter-Vickers, remarking that the former Tottenham man is now widely regarded as the best player in the Scottish Premiership.

Carter-Vickers came through the youth system at Tottenham but only made just five senior appearances for Spurs during his time with the club (Transfermarkt), having spent the majority of his career on loan at various EFL clubs.

On the back of his impressive loan spell at Parkhead during the 2021-22 season, Celtic took up the option to sign the centre-back permanently last summer and he has subsequently hit even greater heights this campaign.

The USA international has established himself as one of the leaders of the Bhoys backline and Fabrizio Romano even suggested on the House of Champions podcast back in March that Carter-Vickers’ displays this season had caught the attention of several Premier League clubs.

When asked about how the 25-year-old has been getting on in Scotland, Davies has now told CBS Sports: “He has brought stability. He is the general.

“He has put in a lot of hard tackles.

“He is a player that is regarded as the best in the Scottish Premier League.

“That’s the kind of player he is. He held the team accountable. He is the anchor in the back.

“He played alongside Carl Starfelt. It always felt like he was the enforcer for this Celtic team.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It was the right decision for all parties to part ways last summer as Carter-Vickers needed to play regular football.

While the 25-year-old might evolve into a top defender, I am sceptical about whether he is good enough for the Premier League at this point as the quality of the Scottish top flight is on par with League One.
