According to journalist Alex Crook, new Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou is a big fan of Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.

Maddison looks destined to leave the King Power Stadium this summer following Leicester‘s relegation but it is still far from clear where the attacking midfielder will end up this summer.

Over the last few months, reports have indicated that Spurs and Newcastle are locked in a battle for the 26-year-old who, by some accounts, is valued at around £40m (The Sun).

In fact, Football Insider reported last week that the North London club have made the Foxes star their top target and they are of the belief that they can win the race for his signature even though they do not have European football to offer the player.

The Daily Mirror subsequently claimed on Tuesday that Maddison is one of three Premier League stars that Spurs have identified as potential targets ahead of Postecoglou‘s first season in charge.

Crook has now told talkSPORT about the Leicester man: “I think Maddison definitely will go.

“The interest from Newcastle, that started last summer, has never really gone away.

“I think Ange Postecoglou is an admirer as well so keep an eye on Tottenham maybe joining that particular race.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on many different reports over the last few weeks, it does appear as if Tottenham are prioritising a move to Maddison, which is understandable given that we lack an attacking midfielder and have a shortage of homegrown players.

However, the Leicester star is not likely to have plenty of suitors this summer and Tottenham face an uphill task in convincing the player to reject Champions League clubs in favour of a move to N17.
