Journalist claims Premier League midfielder ‘could definitely do a job’ at Spurs

Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge has suggested that Jesse Lingard would be a useful addition to the Tottenham squad amidst reports linking the midfielder with a move to Newcastle.

Lingard has struggled for game time at Manchester United since returning to his parent club in the summer after a successful loan spell at West Ham.

Tottenham were alleged to be competing with the Hammers for his signature during the summer transfer window but neither club manage to prise him away from Old Trafford.

The Sun claimed last week that Man United could cash in on the 28-year-old in January for a fee of around £15m if he does not put pen to paper on a new deal.

Following Newcastle’s Saud-led takeover, the Magpies have been mooted as a potential destination for Lingard in January.

The England international’s agent was reportedly in attendance at St James’ Park for Tottenham’s 3-2 win over Newcastle United last week.

Bridge believes that Lingard could do a job for Spurs if Nuno Espirito Santo’s men swoop for the attacking midfielder in January.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Would Lingard want to go to Newcastle? I don’t know. But Spurs, I think he could definitely do a job at Spurs.”

Even if Spurs sell Dele Alli, I am not sure the club will move for another number 10/number 8 in January. If Nuno decides to stick to the 4-2-3-1, he already has two decent options in Ndombele and Lo Celso for that role.
