Journalist claims reported Spurs centre-back target could be sold for over £30m

Duncan Castles has claimed that Brighton are preparing for a potential sale of Ben White this summer, with ‘sufficient interest’ coming in from other Premier League clubs.

The journalist also added that Brighton believe a big bid of over £30m could come in for White this summer, at which point they would have to let him leave.

Football London reported as recently as last month that White was on Tottenham’s wishlist for a new central defender this summer.

Spurs have struggled in the centre of defence this season and are reportedly looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the next campaign.

However, the Sunday Mirror also reported last year that Liverpool were interested in snapping up the Brighton centre-half.

Castles told The Transfer Window Podcast: “Brighton are preparing their summer transfer strategy with the expectation that Bissouma will be sold.

“Interestingly I believe they are also preparing for the possibility that Ben White might be sold to another Premier League club because there is sufficient interest.

“They feel that a large bid, and it would be larger than £30 million, could come in and they would have to allow White to leave too.”

Therefore, it appears that Spurs may have to shell out over £30m in order to guarantee the signing this summer, or bid lower and hope for a lack of competition and a Brighton desire to sell.

Ben White has played 36 games for Brighton this season and TransferMarkt claim that he is worth around £22.5m in the current market.
