Journalist claims Serge Aurier has been offered to Arsenal

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier has been offered to Arsenal, according to journalist Ekrem Konur.

It is claimed that Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has given permission for the club to begin talks with the right-back.

Aurier’s departure from Tottenham was announced shortly before the transfer window closed on Tuesday evening after it was mutually agreed to terminate his contract.

BBC journalist Simon Stone confirmed on Twitter that Aurier had to sever ties with Tottenham prior to the 11pm deadline if he wished to join a new club as a free-agent following the end of the summer window, or would otherwise have had to wait until January to depart.

Sky Sports claimed that no suitable offers were made for the 28-year-old, who had less than a year to run on his existing deal at the club.

Aurier is a free agent and can now join who he wants, however, a move to Arsenal would leave a sour taste in the mouths of Spurs fans. Other players have crossed the divide, with William Gallas joining on a free transfer in 2010, while the most notorious of all was Sol Campbell.
