Journalist claims Serie A club are expected to contact Spurs over defender

SportItalia journalist Rudy Galetti has said that AS Roma could make a move for Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga in the January transfer window.

Tanganga was linked with a move to Roma during the summer, with some reports even indicating that the defender could have potentially be used as a makeweight by the north London club in a deal to sign Nicolo Zaniolo (AS Roma Live).

The Giallorossi were not the only ones credited with an interest in the Spurs academy graduate, with the likes of AC Milan (Football Insider), Inter Milan (Gianluca Di Marzio), Leeds United (TuttoMercatoWeb), and Nottingham Forest (The Athletic) also mooted as potential destinations for the defender.

While a transfer did not materialise for Tanganga in the summer, Galetti has now suggested that he could be on the move in January.

The journalist revealed that Jose Mourinho is keen to sign a centre-back in the next transfer window and Roma are expected to make contact with the 23-year-old regarding a move to the Stadio Olimpico.

The report explains that the Serie A club will also speak to representatives of Manchester United’s Victor Lindelof and Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah.

It looks likely that Tanganga will be sold in January while both Bryan Gil and Pape Matar Sarr would be allowed to leave on loan.

If that does happen, Conte will want to bring in another centre-back as a backup and potentially an attacker of Malinovskyi’s profile, who can play through the middle or out-wide.
