Journalist claims Serie A side are looking to ‘close a deal’ for Spurs defender

Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that AC Milan are looking to close a deal for Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga.

Tanganga was not included Spurs’ matchday squad for their Premier League season-opener against Southampton and was an unused substitute in the subsequent fixtures against Chelsea and Wolves.

The Spurs academy graduate has previously been reported to be a target for both Milan (Football Insider) and AS Roma (CalcioMercato) but the speculation subsequently died out.

Di Marzio reported last Friday that Milan have restarted talks with Spurs over a late deal to bring Tanganga to the San Siro.

The journalist claimed the Serie A club wanted to sign the defender on loan with an option to buy while Spurs preferred a permanent exit.

Di Marzio has now offered another update on the transfer, explaining that the Rossoneri are keen to bolster their backline and have already begun contact with Tanganga’s representatives.

He added that Milan are looking to ‘close a deal with the player’ before reigniting talks with Tottenham over a loan deal for the 23-year-old with an option to buy.

Conte made it clear in his press conference on Saturday (Football.London) that replacements would have to be signed if any players leave. He was presumably talking about Tanganga and Bryan Gil.

I am not sure if there is enough time left in the transfer window for Spurs to secure a suitable replacement for the 23-year-old. So, I would not be surprised if the club decide to hang on to him and reassess the situation in January.
