Journalist claims some at Spurs wouldn’t be surprised if player left and became big success

Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge has revealed that some inside Tottenham would not be surprised if Steven Bergwijn turns out to be a success elsewhere.

Bergwijn has struggled to get a look in at Spurs since Antonio Cone arrived through the door. Unsurprisingly, the winger has expressed his intention to leave Tottenham this summer in search of regular game time (AD).

According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs want €30m (£25.6m) for the 24-year-old, who is said to be generating a lot of interest around Europe.

Ajax have reportedly reignited their interest in the 24-year-old this summer after failing in their effort to take him back to the Eredivisie during the January transfer window (The Daily Mirror).

The former PSV Eindhoven man is also allegedly attracting interest from Premier League sides, with Crystal Palace and Brighton thought to be among those who are eyeing the wide-man (Ekrem Konur).

Bridge has claimed that some inside Spurs do not doubt Bergwijn’s quality and expect the player to succeed at his next club.

The journalist told GiveMeSport about the winger’s impending exit: “He gets a few niggly injuries, but he’s a well-built bloke and there is a belief inside Tottenham that they won’t be totally surprised if he leaves the club and goes on to really be a success.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If Spurs do value Bergwijn highly and expect him to be a success at his next club, the club will not want to let him leave on the cheap. That is why I suspect that Ajax might not win the race for the winger as the Eredivisie side likely will not be able to match offers from Premier League sides.
