Journalist claims Spurs and Liverpool have both offered £62m for striker

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have both reportedly made a whopping a €70million bid for Lille striker Victor Osimhen ahead of the summer window.

Spurs have been linked with Osimhen since January and are said to be one of several clubs across Europe keen on the 21-year-old’s signature (Sky Sports).

The striker has netted 18 goals in 38 appearances for the Ligue 1 side (transfermarkt.com) this season and been a constant threat with his pace, power, and skill.

Telefoot claimed this month that Lille had received an offer of around £75 million for Oshimen from an unnamed club.

Cahiers du Football and L’Observateur’s chief editor, Abdellah Boulma then confirmed that Tottenham were the club behind the offer. However, he suggested that the offer was lower than the £75 million figure being reported.

Italian journalist, Diego De Luca, has now revealed that the offer made was close to €70 million (£62m) while adding that Liverpool have now also matched Spurs’ offer.

Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss (as relayed by Area Napoli), he said: “Victor Osimhen? He is a player owned by Lille. The deal is very complicated because there are various teams on the player.

“Liverpool and Tottenham have offered 70 million for the player. In the short term, there may be some news on the renewal issue.”

I can’t see any club being in a position to pay that kind of money for Osimhen this summer, let alone us given the financial problems that we are facing. I suspect the 21-year-old was on our radar before the COVID-19 pandemic hit but the club have likely recalibrated their targets for this summer since then.
