Journalist claims Spurs and Man Utd are battling it out for England international

Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are battling it out with Manchester United for West Bromwich Albian goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

Johnstone’s future is up in the air, with the goalkeeper’s current deal at the Hawthorns running out this summer (Transfermarkt).

The Daily Mail reported recently that the 29-year-old is one of the options Spurs are eyeing as a backup to Hugo Lloris but the report added the Lilywhites may face competition from the likes of Newcastle, West Ham and Southampton for the West Brom man’s signature.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold subsequently claimed that Spurs were the front-runners to snap up the Baggies star while The Sun asserted that the North Londoners are confident of winning the race for the England man.

Dorsett has now taken to social media to reveal that Johnstone will depart West Brom when his contract runs out this summer as he wishes to return to the Premier League.

He claimed that Antonio Conte’s men are currently going head-to-head against the Red Devils for the goalkeeper.

Johnstone is as good a goalkeeper as we are going to get as a backup to Hugo. The 29-year-old is proven in the Premier League and the fact that he is available for free makes the deal a no-brainer for Spurs if he is willing to come.
