Journalist claims Spurs are considering move for Argentina star next summer

Journalist Dean Jones believes that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez as a potential replacement for Hugo Lloris next summer.

At 35 years of age, Lloris is now in the twilight of his career and if reports over recent months are to be believed, this might be the Frenchman’s last season at Tottenham.

The Evening Standard reported back in September that Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte have already held talks over replacing the former Lyon man.

Among the names mooted as a potential replacement, Pickford’s has been mentioned more than most, with 90 min claiming during the summer that Spurs enquired about the Everton number one while negotiating with the Toffees for Richarlison.

The Lilywhites’ interest in the England star was also backed up by journalist Graeme Bailey, who told TEAMtalk last month that the 28-year-old is part of Tottenham’s three-man shortlist to replace Lloris.

Jones has now asserted that Spurs also have their eye on Argentina’s World Cup star Martinez as the former Arsenal man could be open to a switch next summer.

When asked about the goalkeeping role at Tottenham, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “A very interesting position at Spurs going forward. I do think they’re keeping an eye on the Pickford situation.

“I’m pretty sure they’re also looking at Emi Martinez and whether he might consider a move at the end of the season.”

Martinez is not only a great shot-stopper but he is also extremely commanding in the way he comes to claim crosses in addition to being good with the ball at his feet. The only potential negative is that the Villa star is already 30 years of age, which means that he might not necessarily be a long-term option for Tottenham.
