Journalist claims Spurs are ‘creeping into the conversations’ for midfield star

CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs has said that Tottenham Hotspur face competition from multiple Premier League rivals and clubs from Italy for Angers midfielder Azzedine Ounahi.

Ounahi is one of several Moroccan stars whose stock has risen considerably on the back of the World Cup in Qatar, with the North African side making an unlikely run to the semifinals before eventually being eliminated by France.

Tottenham’s interest in the 22-year-old first came to light last week when La Repubblica claimed that Antonio Conte’s men had made contact with Angers over a deal for the midfielder.

Since then, it has emerged that Napoli are ready to push ahead with a €20m (£17.6m) move for Ounahi (TyC Sports) while Foot Mercato revealed a couple of days ago that Leeds United had also submitted an opening offer for the youngster.

Jacobs has now revealed on the Last Word on Spurs’ YouTube channel that apart from Napoli and Leeds, Leicester City have also registered an interest in the Angers star.

The journalist stated that Spurs are ‘creeping into the conversations’ for Ounahi over recent days but asserted that the North London club ‘would have to move quickly’ to snap up the midfielder.

Ounahi seems like a typical Paratici target and I would not be surprised if the Spurs managing director is looking to sign the Moroccan and loan him back to Angers or another Ligue 1 club.

However, the 22-year-old does not strike me as a player that Conte would be particularly enthusiastic about, given that the Italian values experienced stars over young players with potential.
