Journalist claims Spurs are ‘in contact’ with agent of Arsenal midfield target

Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano has told The Arsenal Lounge that Tottenham have contacted the agent of Gunners target Houssem Aouar over a potential move this month.

The France international has appeared on the radar of both north London clubs this summer, with an exit from Lyon looking all the more likely.

Aouar has been a long-term target for Arsenal over recent transfer windows, but it appears as though they will be battling it out with Spurs to acquire his signature.

The midfielder has two years remaining on his current contract with the Ligue 1 side, with manager Peter Bosz previously stating he could leave the Groupama Stadium, but only for the right value.

Although The Gunners have retained a keen interest in Aouar, Romano claims that Spurs have also taken a step forward in a potential deal, with Nuno Espirito’s side reportedly speaking to the player’s agent.

He said: “Aouar is a player they [Arsenal] love. They like Aouar. They are still waiting to see what happens with Lyon.

“It is a completely different situation when they wanted the player last summer, but it was not easy to find an agreement with the player and Lyon at the end of the window.

“But now he could still be an opportunity for Arsenal and for Tottenham. They are both in contact with his agent.

“So, they are still looking at the situation, and if Lyon will give the green light in the coming days, he could become an option for Arsenal too.”

It is quite surprising that more clubs haven’t taken an interest in Aouar, given the relatively modest price tag being placed on the midfielder.

For Spurs, though, the midfield is currently quite congested, with Nuno having several options to use at his disposal. Unless there are one or two outgoings, there genuinely may not be enough room to fit Aouar in.
