Journalist claims Spurs are not ‘likely’ or ‘unlikely’ to sign midfielder Conte likes

The Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has confirmed that Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte were admirers of Sofyan Amrabat before the World Cup.

Amrabat is arguably in with a shout for the player of the tournament award in Qatar, which is a suggestion that many would have rolled their eyes at before the start of the World Cup.

Unsurprisingly, the 26-year-old’s future has been the subject of much speculation ahead of the January transfer window but there have been mixed reports over recent days regarding Tottenham’s interest in the Fiorentina star.

La Repubblica (15/12/22 as relayed by Sport Witness) reported a few days ago that Spurs are the ‘most interested’ club in the central midfielder, who is valued by the Viola at around €50m-€55m (£43.7m-£48.1m).

However, Gianluca Di Marzio told SoccerNews recently that despite Conte being a fan of Amrabat, the Spurs boss is happy with the options he has in midfield. The journalist added that the Moroccan’s representatives are pushing him to join Liverpool in January.

Taylor has now opined that it would be inaccurate to describe Tottenham’s chances of signing the midfielder as either ‘likely’ or ‘unlikely’.

When asked if Spurs are unlikely to sign Amrabat, he told GiveMeSport: “I wouldn’t say unlikely, but I also wouldn’t say likely. I think it’s clear that he’s a player appreciated by Paratici and Conte and given that he has played so well at the World Cup, why would that have changed?”

While it is clear that Paratici and Conte are fans of Amrabat, what is also fairly obvious is that Tottenham do not need another number six in January. The only way it would make sense for us to sign the Moroccan is the club do something drastic like loaning out or selling Oliver Skipp.
