Journalist claims Spurs are ‘reasonably confident’ Conte will be in charge next season

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed Tottenham Hotspur are confident that Antonio Conte will stay, especially if the club manage to qualify for the Champions League.

It has been reported in France over recent days that Conte is on the shortlist to replace Mauricio Pochettino as the Paris Saint-Germain manager and the Italian has even offered himself to the Ligue 1 giants on a two-year contract (Le Parisien).

However, Gazzetta dello Sport reported that the Spurs boss’ entourage rubbished the story, terming it as ‘absurd fake news’. Conte himself also labelled it as ‘fake news’ and ‘lies’ in his press conference today (Football London).

Jones has now revealed that while there is always a risk of Conte walking away if his demands are not met, Spurs are ‘reasonably confident’ that the 52-year-old will stay.

The journalist revealed the North Londoners are now planning for the transfer window and pre-season with Conte.

Jones told GiveMeSport: “If they cannot satisfy him (Conte), he will walk away. That’s the kind of man he is – he would walk away from that job.

“As it is right now, Tottenham are planning for him to be their manager, though.

“Pre-season plans are in place, they are getting their shortlist ready for transfers and they’re reasonably confident that he will be staying, especially if they do manage to nick that top-four spot.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This looks to be a case of PSG feeding the Conte rumours to the press in order to potentially get back at Spurs for unsettling Pochettino last summer. All the journalists with sources close to Conte have vehemently denied the news and one would expect the Italian to set the record straight in his next press conference.
