Journalist claims Spurs are still in the running for central midfielder

French football journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi has claimed that a move for Houssem Aouar remains on the cards for Tottenham this summer.

Aouar is alleged to be of interest to Tottenham, as well as their North London rivals, Arsenal in the current transfer window.

It has also emerged that Tottenham’s managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, is an admirer of the midfielder, having tried to take him to Juventus last summer.

Aouar has just two years left to run on his contract with Lyon and the Ligue 1 club’s head coach has admitted that the 23-year-old could be on his way out this summer.

It is worth mentioning that Football.London’s Alasdair Gold said last month that there is nothing concrete to suggest that Spurs are eyeing a move for Aouar.

However, Bouhafsi has now said on Fabrizio Romano’s Twitch channel (06/08/21) that both Tottenham and Arsenal hold a genuine interest in the France international.

The journalist insisted the midfielder could still end up at either North London club before the transfer window shuts.

Tottenham’s decision on whether or not to move for another central midfielder likely depends on whether Nuno is prepared to give Winks a chance. If we do cash in on the England international, we can certainly do a lot worse than replacing him with Aouar.
