Journalist claims Spurs are still ‘lurking in the background’ for Arsenal target

TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have not ruled out a move for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans this summer.

According to reports, Spurs are expected to seal the capture of Yves Bissouma from Brighton this week (Fabrizio Romano), with the midfielder set to be the North London club’s third signing of the summer.

The Times have revealed that apart from Bissouma, Antonio Conte also wants to bring in two defenders, an attacking midfielder and a striker to the club this summer.

Tielemans was previously mooted as a target for Spurs (GiveMeSport) but The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported a couple of weeks ago that Arsenal are hopeful of winning the race for the Leicester star.

This was backed up by CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs, who suggested this week that Arsenal expect to win the race for the Belgian international, with Tottenham’s move for Bissouma allaying fears about their North London rivals swooping for the Foxes star.

Crook has now insisted that while Mikel Arteta’s side remain favourites to win the race for Tielemans, Spurs are not yet out of the running for the 25-year-old’s signature.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think Tottenham are lurking in the background as well, and I think even Leicester are willing to offer him a new contract to keep him there.

“So, maybe Arsenal isn’t as attractive a proposition as it was, but he was definitely in the building in January, his agent was anyway, holding talks.

“I would still make them the frontrunners, but their position has definitely been weakened by the fact that they’re not in the Champions League.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If Spurs really wanted Tielemans, I suspect we would have already made an approach for him by now. Even if we do not end up winning the race for Christian Eriksen’s signature, I do not think the club are likely to move for the Belgian international this summer.
